Week 5 Scores & Standouts: Jupiter Stuns Palm Beach Lakes With Wild Fourth-Quarter Comeback
By Rangeman Films Media | High School Football
One of the wildest finishes of Week 5 in Palm Beach County came Thursday night as Jupiter erased a 14-point deficit and stunned Palm Beach Lakes 15-14, improving to 4-0 while handing the Rams their first loss of the season. Palm Beach Lakes fell to 3-1.
This matchup was unusual before the comeback even began. The game originally started Sept. 3 but was suspended by lightning with Palm Beach Lakes leading 7-0. When the teams finally resumed play Sept. 17, the Rams extended the advantage to 14-0 and carried that lead through the third quarter. Jupiter then scored all 15 of its points in the fourth quarter.
How Jupiter came back
The turning point came early in the fourth quarter on one of the strangest plays you’ll see. Palm Beach Lakes recovered a Jupiter fumble, but the Rams player carrying the recovered ball went into his own end zone and was tackled for a safety, giving Jupiter its first two points and cutting the deficit to 14-2.
From there, the Warriors caught fire.
Quarterback Dylan Foltz connected with Drew Larsen for a 10-yard touchdown on fourth down, bringing Jupiter within 14-9 with 6:59 remaining. After the Jupiter defense forced another stop, Foltz found tight end Ace Bogedan for a 9-yard go-ahead touchdown with 3:36 remaining, giving the Warriors a 15-14 advantage.
Jupiter’s defense then finished the job.
Jupiter Standouts
Dylan Foltz — QB: When Jupiter needed its quarterback most, Foltz delivered. The junior threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes, hitting Larsen to start the comeback and Bogedan for the eventual game-winner.
Drew Larsen — WR/S: Larsen made an impact on both sides of the football. His fourth-down touchdown reception brought Jupiter back into the game, and reporting on the game credits him as one of the key two-way contributors in the comeback. He entered the matchup with more than 100 receiving yards on the season, and the score was his fourth receiving touchdown of the year.
Nick Bothe — RB/FS: Bothe’s versatility showed up late. He contributed on offense during the comeback, including a key first-down run that helped set up the go-ahead score, while also making a major defensive contribution late in the game.
Ace Bogedan — TE: Bogedan delivered arguably the biggest offensive play of the night. His 9-yard touchdown reception with 3:36 left completed Jupiter’s comeback and gave the Warriors their first lead.
Zach Sulyma — LB/TE: Sulyma’s third-down quarterback pressure helped force an intentional-grounding penalty during the fourth-quarter rally, contributing to the defensive stop that gave Jupiter the ball back for its winning drive.
Palm Beach Lakes Standouts
The loss shouldn’t overshadow several strong performances from the Rams.
Jordan Johnson — QB: Johnson finished 13-of-23 for 126 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception, while adding 42 rushing yards on 10 carries. He accounted for both Palm Beach Lakes touchdowns through the air.
Ryan Ferdinand — WR: Ferdinand was Johnson’s leading target, finishing with five receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown. His biggest play was a 40-yard touchdown reception that extended Palm Beach Lakes’ advantage to 14-0.
Hershell Reynolds — WR: Reynolds caught Palm Beach Lakes’ other touchdown pass, helping the Rams establish their early lead before Jupiter’s fourth-quarter surge.
Michael Kelly — DB: Kelly came up with an interception and returned it to Jupiter’s 33-yard line, creating another scoring opportunity for the Rams.
Final: Jupiter 15, Palm Beach Lakes 14
For three quarters, Palm Beach Lakes controlled the scoreboard. In the fourth, everything changed.
Jupiter combined a safety, two touchdown passes and critical defensive stops to score 15 unanswered points in the final period. The victory moves the Warriors to 4-0, while Palm Beach Lakes drops to 3-1. Next up, Jupiter travels to Wellington on Sept. 25, while Palm Beach Lakes hosts undefeated Palm Beach Central.
Week 5 Rangeman Films takeaway: Jupiter showed it can win a completely different type of football game. After averaging big offensive numbers earlier in the season, the Warriors had to grind this one out, survive a 14-point hole and make plays under pressure. Palm Beach Lakes showed why it entered the night unbeaten, but a remarkable fourth quarter turned what looked like a Rams victory into one of Week 5’s most dramatic finishes.
